Where to books come from?

Today I had the pleasure of being a guest speaker in my daughter’s second grade class at Tappan Zee Elementary School!
I spoke to her class about where books come from and the origin of printing. The students were so great, they asked tons of questions and when I brought out the wood block type and the metal type they really went nuts. I could not bring in the studio’s letterpress machine (way too big) so we did the next best thing: we inked up the letters and printed them by hand onto paper. After the students had their printed pieces they each ran back to their desks to decorate their pages further. I was surprised and moved by how excited they got about books and printing and at how beautiful they each made their pages.
